Intervention
400 m. of golden string
2009
According to the legend from popular Asturian mythology, “xanas” are charitable fresh-water nymphs or fairies known, among other things, for extending near their dwellings balls of golden yarn which they use for one of their main activities: spinning.
Drawing on this image, Larrea performed this intervention with several metres of golden string, in a park in the city of Gijón, weaving delicate wefts much like spider webs in order to make connections to other less local, more universal myths, such as that of Ariadne or that of Penelope..
