Series of 8 drawings
Black ink and watercolour
40 x 30 cm. each
2007
This work was inspired by the clandestine and virtually marginal tradition of collecting art representing explicit sex. With this source as departure point, the artist made these drawings while keeping in mind the refined erotic Japanese engravings of the eighteenth century. For this reason, manifold graphic details and original Japanese designs can be appreciated in the plates, in addition to symbols, hair combs and calligraphic characters from that country. When executing this series of drawings, Diana Larrea was determinedly focused on rendering a delicate style, paying attention to the subtlety of the technical quality through a whole variety of Japanese aesthetic features.
