Bringing Refugees Home
3 Photomontages
40 x 50 cm. each
2016
Taking as a direct reference the Martha Rosler’s series of photomontages “Bringing the War Home: House Beautiful” (1967-1972), where she conflated images of domestic interiors with images of combat related to the Vietnam War, this work also poses a critical vision about a real social-political conflict. In this case, Larrea also used a cut and paste technique to combine images of domestic interiors, drawn from popular magazine “Diseño Interior”, with images of a refugees camp in Turkey. It is a way to highlight the conditions of vulnerability suffered by victims of armed conflicts when they seek asylum in some of the world’s wealthiest nations.
